Tim Ash, an internationally recognized speaker and author on digital marketing and evolutionary psychology, explored the negative consequences of polarization in the workplace, and how to build positive outcomes in a Sept, 21 presentation to San Diego's Sage Executive Group.

He pointed out that "polarization affects all companies," and leaders need to understand how pervasive it can be in the workforce and why. "The roots of tribalism and polarization are buried deep in our evolutionary inheritance," he said, and people automatically into opposing group, often over the smallest difference, and sometimes violently.

It is human nature, he said, to band together in tribes and there is value in building intentionally positive tribes, taking into account people's natural inclination to be part of a team. "Use the whole positive polarization tool kit,: he said.

Ash, who is based in San Diego, has been featured in more than 200 keynote addresses and appearances in worldwide for major companies. He also ran the digital marketing agency, Site Tuners. He most recent book is titled, "Unleash Your Primal Brain: Demystifying How We Think and Why We Act."
